Marco Corona and Tycely Williams of AFP Global will lead a discussion highlighting how AFP's IDEA principles are applied at the global level, building a case for usage across all chapters and aspects of fundraising. The session will also spotlight how to work with underrepresented groups within the fundraising profession. Attendees will gain insight into how AFP Global's strategic plan incorporates IDEA principles, how US census and AFP survey data is used to improve adoption of those principles, and how fundraisers can better access a small pool of donors from typically underrepresented groups.

Tycely Williams

Williams is a Certified Fundraising Executive, and in her more than 20-year career she has inspired individuals and institutions to invest more than $100 million dollars in charitable causes.

Williams most recently served as Chief Development Officer for America’s Promise Alliance, the largest alliance of youth-serving organizations in the U.S. She’s also advanced philanthropy as vice president of development of YWCA USA, as the chief development officer for the American Red Cross National Capital Region, an association director of major gifts for the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, a director of development for two health and human services organizations, the artistic director of two community-based dance studios, and the executive director for a nonprofit organization founded by a Fortune 500 company.

Williams leads the Association of Fundraising Professionals global Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Committee; chairs the governing boards of Monument Academy Public Charter School, the Nonprofit Alliance Foundation, and Rising Media Stars; and teaches Fundraising and Leadership at The Pennsylvania State University.

A cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication with distinguished departmental honors and a minor in Journalism. She also earned an Executive Master’s in Leadership from The McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.

Marco Corona

Marco A. Corona is proud to serve as the Chief Development Officer at the International African American Museum. Prior to joining the team, Marco was the Director of Development at Education Leaders of Color—a national network of senior leaders working to build generational wealth for communities of color—and was the Chief Development Officer at One80 Place—a Charleston, SC-based organization ending and preventing homelessness across South Carolina.

Marco was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, attending UCLA before embarking on a 20-year career in non-profits that includes 15 years of fundraising. While in California, he worked for Best Buddies International and the Level Playing Field Institute as well as The Jamestown Community Center. In addition, he is a graduate of Leadership Charleston (class of 2017), a past president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) SC Lowcountry Chapter, a former Inclusion Diversity Equity Access (IDEA) Committee Chair for AFP Global, and currently serves on the AFP Global board of directors as the Vice Chair of Membership Engagement.
