Full Disclosure, I currently serve on the board of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of AFP, and I presented at last year’s conference, so I’m admittedly biased! However, the reasons for my involvement are valid and my perspective is, I believe, worth sharing.

Last year, I had the pleasure of attending the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Regional Leading Philanthropy Conference in the greater Philadelphia area. As a seasoned fundraiser, I was eager to immerse myself in a gathering of like-minded professionals and explore the latest trends and practices in our ever-evolving field, especially after 2+ years of virtual events. In this blog post, I want to share my personal journey and highlight the compelling reasons why attending this conference was an invaluable experience for me.

What truly sets the AFP Regional Leading Philanthropy Conference apart is the opportunity to learn from local fundraisers who have firsthand experience within the greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey areas. The presentations were delivered by fellow professionals who intimately understand the challenges and opportunities we face. Their stories, strategies, and practical advice resonated deeply with me, and I walked away with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration.

Attending this conference provided me with an incredible chance to expand my professional network. I had the privilege of connecting with fundraising professionals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Engaging in conversations, exchanging ideas, and sharing best practices were immensely rewarding. The camaraderie and support that permeated the event were invaluable, as I discovered potential collaborators, mentors, and friends within the local philanthropic community.

One of the highlights of the AFP Regional Leading Philanthropy Conference was the opportunity to share my expertise and experiences with young fundraisers. As a seasoned professional, I felt a deep sense of fulfillment in offering guidance, answering questions, and providing support to those beginning their fundraising journeys. Witnessing their enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge reaffirmed my commitment to continuous growth and inspired me to remain at the forefront of our industry.

Regardless of your experience level, the conference offers something for everyone. The organizers have meticulously curated a diverse range of sessions, workshops, and panel discussions to cater to the specific needs and interests of fundraisers at all stages of their careers. Whether you are a seasoned professional seeking advanced strategies or a newcomer eager to learn the foundations, this conference ensures that every attendee finds relevant and actionable insights.

This year’s conference's overarching theme of "Looking Forward" reflects the need for the fundraising community to adapt to a post-pandemic world and the social justice awakening of recent years. The sessions explored current trends and new standards in fundraising, equipping us with the tools necessary to navigate the evolving landscape. By attending, you can take an active part in enhancing the fundraising and nonprofit industry, contributing to positive change within our community.

Attending the AFP Regional Leading Philanthropy Conference last year was an incredible experience that left a lasting impact on my professional journey. The wealth of knowledge, the connections forged, and the renewed sense of purpose I gained were immeasurable. If you are a fundraiser seeking to expand your horizons, learn from local experts, build your network, and contribute to the growth of our industry, I wholeheartedly encourage you to attend this year’s conference. The insights and connections you gain will propel your fundraising efforts to new heights and ignite your passion for making a lasting impact in the philanthropic world.
